Please excuse me if I have misunderstood something, as I am just trying to find my way around bug fixing.
I Found this through Harvest, it shows up with a Kubuntu tag. However Kubuntu doesn't use this package, I believe it uses KDE Printer Configuration tool, which provides user assignment support, please see attached screenshot. My first assumption was to remove the Kubuntu tag, but I couldn't see that one as set. My next thought was to do nothing and move one. But, finally I decided to add this note, in the hope that it might be useful in someway. ** Attachment added: "KDE Config screenshot" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/system-config-printer/+bug/700126/+attachment/3923253/+files/KDE-Printer-Configuration-Access-Levels2.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to system-config-printer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/700126 Title: non-primary users not added to acl list for scanner/printer Status in “system-config-printer” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm using 10.04 and an HP Photosmart C4480 printer/scanner. The user with id 1000 is added to the acl list of the usb device file upon plugin. In order to get the device to work for other users i have to either add them to the lp group thereby bruteforcing the problem, or (i would assume) edit some hal file to add perms for everyone who has to use the scanner. It would be nice if there was a clear and uniform (for all users) way to give access to a device as common as a scanner. Pick one method: ACLs or file perms. If ACLs then also include a gui that adds users to the "allowed" list. Wasn't there a scanner group in a previous ubuntu iteration that already solved this problem? Where did it go?
