There's already a program called "chromium". We can't change this easily.
The answer is that almost all users will be running chromium from a desktop where "Chromium" will find the application launcher and won't be a problem. People who are technical enough to be typing the path /usr/bin/chromium... are also technical enough to know that chromium is a game and chromium-browser is a browser. ** Changed in: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Status: New => Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1250143 Title: Program command "chromium-browser" is problematic Status in “chromium-browser” package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: This is more an issue than a bug but I do not know how else to bring this up to your attention. The use of CHROMIUM-BROWSER (as opposed to CHROMIUM) as command for Chromium is not intuitive and problematic for many users, for example to create launchers or fix window position in Openbox, or create keyboard shortcuts, etc. 1) It does not follow standards. The command for all other programs is usually the program's name. 2) It cannot be guessed. 3) The -browser is not needed and does not serve any purpose. 4) It is un-userfriendly. A constant complaint about Linux is that it is not user-friendly. Changing the command to CHROMIUM only would make it more intuitive and easily all the issues above... the issues created by the unconventional naming of this program. It is going to be one less frustration for users. Thanks.
