Title:
windows on previously disconnected second monitor no longer responsive
Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I upgraded yesterday to 13.04 from Ubuntu Studio 12.10; running xfce4
and xfwm4. On a dual-monitor setup, I accidentally kicked out the DVI
cable from one of the monitors and plugged it back in (this may have
already happened once or twice without consequence; I can't remember
if that was before or after the upgrade). This second monitor
displays all windows correctly, and the mouse cursor is able to move
between screens as usual. But none of the windows or other UI
elements on the second monitor receive focus or respond in any way.
Switching virtual desktops only switches the first monitor. Trying to
move a window from the first monitor to the second monitor shows the
mouse cursor on the second monitor but not the window contents (and
the window gets "stuck" on the first monitor as though there is no
second monitor).
Going to the console and back to X blanks out the second monitor, but
the mouse cursor can still travel to it. NVIDIA X Server Settings no
longer shows the second monitor, and Detect Displays does not fix
that. ARandR shows both displays in its layout and allows both to be
configured, until a new layout is applied, then the second display is
completely disabled (mouse now properly stuck on first monitor) and
not configurable.
