I take it from your positive repsonse that it worked? If using the latest 
driver fixes the issue, please mark this bug 'Fixed Released'. Otherwise, 
please be more specific about whether you've tried Raymond's suggestion and 
what happened.

  I've tried just about everything I've read in other threads about this
  problem (alsa menu stuff, installing/re-installing different volume
  controls, etc) but nothing has worked. Still can't get sound from the
  speakers of my Asus x550la. Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit. Thanks
