Seems to me multiple driver bugs could be causing this for different reasons. Nouveau <nv50 had issues under memory stress that are solved in saucy-proposed.
See bug #1247607 for more info. There's a really nasty kernel bug for nouveau that could cause problems too under memory stress for ALL nouveau cards. This is fixed in drm-next: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied/linux/commit/?h=drm- next&id=9360bd1112d8874d21942e2ae74f5416b00a8db6 A precompiled drm-next kernel with the fix for nouveau can be found at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-next/current/ but please grab lidbrm-nouveau2 from -proposed too. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1184451 Title: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have recently, re-installed fresh ubuntu 13.10 distribution release.
