This was never a problem before the upgrade. The noises do not show up if I use the card's default, front, or rear devices instead, but those leave me without surround sound, so they're no good for movie playback. The same problem shows up on the surround40 device. I haven't tried the other surround* devices. I can reproduce problem in Totem or gst-launch playbin with an .asoundrc containing this: pcm.!default { type plug slave.pcm "surround51" } I can reproduce problem in Exaile with the custom sink pipeline set to "alsasink device=surround51" and no .asoundrc. I'm running the amd64 build of Xubuntu. My Audigy2 has the first alsa sound card slot, making it my default sound card. I am not using PulseAudio.
