Follow up to comment 25. Sometimes the hang happens even while browsing within a Firefox window.
I saw the following in dmesg around the time of the problems. I tried Ctl-Alt-F1/Ctl-Alt-F7 and the graphics screen hung (black screen with moveable mouse cursor). I do recall seeing the login screen for a moment and the black screen right after I logged in again. I then rebooted the system. But everything worked fine. until recently i had strange problem of my display screen getting freezed randomly; but no response to either mouse/keyboard. But i want to point it out; it happens randomly and is not specific ? Other day, i had music player playing in background, but screen freezed. but my music was still running.
