  Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I just upgraded to Quantal but I had the same issue on precise
pandolin. Sound randomly stutters. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes to
happen sometimes it will happen twice in a 10 second interval. I have
version 1.0.25-3ubuntu3 of alsa. I tried the workarounds outlined in
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting hence my modified alsa
  file.
