Thank you for your reply. The driver for the mouse is included in the default install (as part of the Kernel). Can you confirm if you restarted your computer before writing this report as the some of the log files in this report are created when the sytem starts?
It is often safe to type your password to the dialogue but check wwhat application is asking for the password. Its name is shown in the title of that dialogue, for example Apport (the bug reporting tool) is safe and often requires your password to access some system log files. if you are unsure whether it is safe to type your password, do not type it.
