Title:
  Installing policykit-1-fingerprint-gui replaces polkit-1-gnome which
  is needed for gnome-shell

Status in “policykit-1” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  On a stock Ubuntu 12.10, with gnome-shell installed from the package
  manager, ligthdm fails to launch a gnome-shell session: the system
  only display an empty background.

  If switching to a tty, and manually starting gnome-shell (simply with
  $ gnome-shell), it runs normally.

  Tested on a Lenovo Thinkpad T430s.

  Reproductible: always
