on my computer both systems still have this error: - Mint 14 Nadia Cinnamon 64 with gvfs version 1.14.0-0ubuntu6 - Ubuntu 13.04 Raring 64 with gvfs version 1.16.0-1ubuntu4
I can easily reproduce this bug by connecting to a windows share in our network and play a large (125MB) mpeg video with any player e. g. vlc. See the output of ps after a few hangs of vlc: 0 S 1000 2014 1 0 80 0 - 49533 poll_s ? 00:00:00 gvfsd 0 S 1000 2018 1 0 80 0 - 250396 futex_ ? 00:00:00 gvfsd-fuse 0 S 1000 4249 1 0 80 0 - 373099 futex_ ? 00:00:00 vlc 0 S 1000 4488 1 0 80 0 - 233207 futex_ ? 00:00:00 vlc 0 S 1000 4667 1 0 80 0 - 373100 futex_ ? 00:00:00 vlc 0 S 1000 4917 1 0 80 0 - 233207 futex_ ? 00:00:00 vlc 0 S 1000 5025 1 0 80 0 - 233394 futex_ ? 00:00:00 vlc gvfs and vlc processes hang with futex, some kind of blocking / locking. vlc processes cant be killed, even with -9. If I do the same by mounting the windows share with cifs, everything works fine, no hangs: sudo mount -t cifs //140.1.1.14/public ~/public -o domain=WINDOWSDOMAINNAME,user=WINDOWSUSER,pass=WINDOWSPASSWORD I filed a bug at bugzilla gvfs: #697782 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697782 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #697782 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=697782 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gvfs in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075923 Title: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share Status in “gvfs” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a large directory, almost 50Gb and 45.000 files shared by samba on ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS server. I used to copy the whole directory regularly on my desktop, and execute a backup with deja dup on that. I did also often backup directly from the samba share. After upgrading my client to 12.10, copying the directory hangs randomly, sometimes after having copied just 1 Gb, others having almost completed the whole transfer. It just hangs, without any crash. I noted the also Deja -dup shows the same behaviour, now it's impossible to complete a backup from the share, it just hangs. It seems to me that a bug in the samba client might be the cause of these issues, since neither nautilus nor Deja-dup have problems with local large directories. my system: Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64 nautilus: 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 deja-dup: deja-dup 24.0-0ubuntu1 smbclient 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 samba-common-bin: 2:3.6.6-3ubuntu5 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: nautilus 1:3.5.90.really.3.4.2-0ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-18.29-generic 3.5.7 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu6 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Nov 7 12:05:58 2012 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.nautilus.window-state' b'geometry' b"'825x550+853+471'" InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-10-22 (16 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Release amd64 (20121017.5) MarkForUpload: True SourcePackage: nautilus UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1075923/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
