Possible duplicate of 1023165, which I have added a comment to (mainly
that I get ibus working correctly by manually reverting to Debian
versions of ibus instead of customized ubuntu version, and also by not
relying on starting ibus with language support, but start it manually
with a custom autostart application)

Title:
  Cannot Select Japanese From iBus' Dropdown Menu When Using Gedit

Status in “ibus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Prerequisites, setup the following in Ubuntu 12.04:

  * English (US)
  * French (Canadian)
  * Japanese

  This will end up looking like the screenshot in bug #947872, but I
  digress...

  1) Launch Text Editor (gedit)
  2) Click the iBus icon
  3) Select Japanese - Anthy
  4) Type with keyboard

  Expected: Japanese characters appear in gedit
  Actual: No change

  In contrast, the exact same steps work fine in this text box, the text
  box that I am using to type this bug report (Using Chrome, あいうえお ...)
