But if the font is not installed in the system, an exclamation symbol is shown next to the font and InkScape doesn't allow to change to other font (it always falls back again to BitStream Vera Sans, which is not installed). Installing the package "ttf-bitstream-vera" fixes the problem, so I recommend to add that package to the dependencies of InkScape. Under Ubuntu 10.10, 64bit.
