I should have said that running magnifier from Terminal (as instructed
in Software Center) causes display of many 'We should clip at ...'
messages but no ability to magnify portions of screen.

PS vmg/magnifier used to work in Lucid. So it looks like a regression
bug.

  App (magnifier) does not do anything when run from Dash. Software
  Center states that app is named vmg & can be run from Terminal. Doing
  that causes 'command not found'.
