This is still happening on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Note that I no longer have
Windows to test with.

Title:
  Realtek ALC887-VD, Microphone background noise

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
My computers sound input has a lot of background noise. If I don't use
Mic Boost it can't be heard but neither can my own voice. If I add Mic
Boost my voice can be heard but it is also very noisy. Other people
can just barely understand me in Skype (also true if I try to test it
with other programs). Microphone works well in Windows Vista.
