I also suffer from random freezes with Nouveau driver in KUbuntu 12.10 (64 bit). My graphics card is GeForce 7300 GT. The issue occures when some KWin animation is being rendered (usually window minimization). This animation often stucks in some middle point, and I can no longer do anything with my computer, except for cold reboot. In the end of Xorg.log I find the following lines:
