Title: [USB-Audio - USB Sound Blaster HD, playback] X-Fi HD playback fails after a while with a beeping sound and usb_set_interface failed errors Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After playing sound for a few minutes, the sound card freezes and only a loud beeping tone comes out. The logs are filled with these messages: Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.462365] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.462616] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.462866] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.463240] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.463490] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.463737] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.464113] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed Aug 15 09:36:49 andean kernel: [29571.464387] 4:1:1: usb_set_interface failed At this point, reloading Alsa modules doesn't help and the only way to get sound back is to unplug the device and reconnect it. The problem is reproducible even with Pulseaudio uninstalled. Playing sound from multiple sources appears to trigger the problem faster.
