regressed back to 10.04LTS (darn video bug for green screen and sound).. confirmed sound and video are behaving. Then let ubuntu self-upgrade. video bug comes back (fixed in 3.5 and not backported to 12.04LTS yet :( ) and HDMI driver disappears..
