Well, that is interesting on several fronts. The new driver does what I need, so I will stick with it. I am retired and not much of a computer user. People using development suites may have trouble, and this is, as far as I am concerned, an ongoing problem with the driver which, all things being equal, will sort itself out in the future.
@madbiologist: Fair winds and following seas. I have been out of the development world for twenty-odd years now, and am completely out of touch with the inner workings. Getting a driver working with mesa must be quite a challenge. The last time I was involved in writing drivers was in the 1960's for mechanical things like paper tape readers, printers and document handlers. It was nice to be able to go and poke the hardware. When you get done with this, if ever, you will most certainly have an article for the journals (Does Software Practive and Experience still publish?).
