I can confirm this bug, affecting also the 64 bits version of xubuntu. Gimp also unlocks when workspace is switched and back again, yet no guides are there when returning to gimp's workspace.

Gimp don't reacts on clicks anymore. Only when I minimize window and restore it back, gimp unlocks, but no guides. Problem solves by killing xscreensaver process. With xscreensaver version 5.13 gimp works fine, but there is 5.12 in standard repository.
