I have idea at this point. I am still reading up on it, and trying to
find someone who has worked with parallel issues in the past. What has
changed from 12.04 to 12.10? Can we track something down that way?

Title:
alsamixer fails to load on quantal ppc

Status in “alsa-utils” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  System G4 iBook
  1.42GHz CPU, 1.5GHz RAM.
Lubuntu Quantal daily build October 1.
  Fresh install

When initially lauched alsamixer in terminal it showed as "file or
directory does not exist". I reinstalled asla-utils package and ran
"rm /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.local.conf", which fixed the problem in
12.04. This time it did not; alsamixer shows in terminal, but with
the message "this sound device does not have any controls", no sound
in system, or loudspeaker icon in taskbar.

Is this a bug or faulty config?
