I don't have any Ubuntu 10.04 installations left. Mounting NFS at boot
has been too troublesome since Ubuntu switched to Upstart. Lots of
other, more critical bugs concerning the boot process drove me away from
Ubuntu Server, and you really don't want to use Kubuntu 10.04 with the
older versions nepomuk/akonadi/virtuoso. I'm sorry, but you'd better
close the bug unless someone else says dhclient works, but Network-
Manager doesn't manage to get an address.

Title:
  NM does not configure eth0

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

At boot, eth0 does not get an IP address.
I'm using /home on NFS, so I have to run dhclient manually. This works.

Within KDE, network-manager-kde says 'Networking system disabled' when
  restarting the network-manager service.

In order to show that eth0 is not managed in /etc/network/interfaces:
  # The primary network interface
  auto eth0
  #iface eth0 inet dhcp
