Title:
Problem with window focus when switching virtual desktops

Status in Unity:
  Expired
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: unity

When switching virtual desktops by using
CTRL+ALT+[up,down, left, right], or when using the desktop switcher in
the Unity dock, window focus is not being correctly assigned in
certain instances. Here is one way to reproduce the problem:

Open a Virtualbox VM (it doesn't matter which guest OS, and it doesn't matter
if guest additions are installed)
Maximize the VM window, then use the Unity dock desktop switcher to switch to
a different desktop
Switch back to the desktop containing the VM using either the hotkeys or the
dock switcher
Now, try to type on the keyboard into the VM

Repeat this as many times as needed to reproduce the bug. About 50%
of the time, the VM won't accept any keyboard input, because the VM
window doesn't have focus, even though it appears to have focus, and
may be the only window on that virtual desktop. The reason I say it's
window focus is because if the VM window won't accept keyboard input,
you can press ALT+TAB to focus it in Ubuntu, and then it will accept
keyboard input. Normally, when a VM window has focus, the VM will
capture the ALT+TAB, not Ubuntu. Once the VM window has been focused
with ALT+TAB, pressing ALT+TAB will be intercepted by the VM window as
  normal, not by Ubuntu.

I suspect this is also part of a few other less prevalent glitches
that occasionally happen when switching virtual desktops.
