WIth "Terminal Bell" in Gnome-Terminal settings enabled AND ccsm
"audible bell" enabled gnome-terminal does not produce sound from the
following

$ tput bel
$ perl -e 'print "\a";'

And similar. Sound effects are enabled and turned to max volume.

  no sound anymore in terminal

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  while in gnome-terminal i cant get any sound to play (used to be system beep) 
but was changed in favor of using the sounds located in system 
settings/sound/sound effects. however they dont work. i can play sound from a 
file or web browser like i can get aplay to play a sound but nothing in 
terminal itsself.
  The problem is also seen in irssi when im pinged nothing happens ecxcept high 
light
