Probably a bug in the driver.

 The syslog also contains oops output that seems to be related to the
atl1c driver.

Bug description:
  In Oneiric, network-manager no longer detects that the wired network
  cable is connected to the computer.

  When reporting this bug, the cable was plugged and ethtool was listing
  the link as being detected.
