It seems that triggering the 'open file' dialogue for attaching the
above picture fixed the problem. Either that or it coincidentally fixed
itself.

Title:
The launcher doesn't hide after installing a app "for purchase" from
  Ubuntu Software Center

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I have set the launcher as auto-hide. When I install an app of the
"for purchase" section, the launcher will reveal after the payment
process is done and won't hide. I have to restart unity to make it
  hide again.

It has happened with all the "for purchase" apps I installed, even the
  ones that are free.
