Now libreoffice started marking documents as "in need of recovery" even with Java disabled. Deleting ~/.libreoffice did not help. Opening a document, inserting a space, saving, exiting and restarting libreoffice yields the recovery announcement. Cancelling the recovery does it have any visible effect on the document.
