I am affected by this as well in 12.04 and in 11.10 before that. If this is not a bug then at least a flawed design. The interface is such that intuitively you do not log out, but just point and click to switch to the desired user account. This then leaves you unintentionally with multiple users logged in, and when you (administrator) want to shut down you are in trouble.
I think this bug/flaw has nothing to do with Oneric / 32 bit. I think it effects everybody. It should be very easy to reproduce by switching to Guest Session, then switch back (without log-out), and then try to shut down. There should be a solution for this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872054 Title: Cannot shutdown/restart with multiple users logged in Status in The Session Menu: Confirmed Status in “gnome-session” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “indicator-session” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is Oneric 32 bit Intel fully updated on a Dell Vostro 3400 laptop. I cannot shutdown/restart from the gear icon on the top right corner if there are multiple users logged in. It simply logs me out and takes me to the lightdm login screen. I remember that it used to warn that other users are logged in through a dialog box but would allow me to shutdown/restart anyway if I entered my password.
