You have been subscribed to a public bug: boot parameter acpi=off or pci=noacpi etc produces the effect that when gdm login screen appears the usual sound effect starts cycling and then after login gdm hangs with the drum music still cycling. This is a gdm problem or perhaps some problem with the ALSA sound driver.
Toshiba Satellite m55-s139 the reason I want acpi off is because the damned thing creates a hardware conflict with eth0 (i suppose a irq sharing conflict). I have been never able to suspend anyways. Acpi IS the weakest link in the linux kernel -- I wish they never came up with it (even though my BIOS does not support APM !). ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Acpi=off hangs gdm in Ubuntu 7.04 beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106840 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
