IMHO, this bug is not about 'not able to play DVD with gstreamer backend'. It is about not being able to play it one particular way (File->Play Disc) while it plays properly in another way (automatic start of totem when DVD is inserted). Taking into account the fact that there is no menu, subtitle support, I think Totem should be able to play DVD with File -> Play Disc. And the user expects this behavior because he can see the DVD playing when totem starts up automatically when DVD is inserted.
