Public bug reported:
Description:
When printing to an HP DeskJet 2700 series configured as an IPP
Everywhere (driverless) printer, selecting "Monochrome" in the print
dialog is ignored.
The document is printed in color even though monochrome is selected.
Environment
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS based system (Zorin OS 18)
- GNOME 46
- Wayland session
- Evince 46.3.1
- HP DeskJet 2700 series
- IPP Everywhere (driverless)
Steps to reproduce
1. Open a PDF containing blue text.
2. Open the Print dialog.
3. Select "Monochrome".
4. Print the document.
Expected result
The document should be printed in black and white.
Actual result
The document is printed in color.
Additional observations
- Firefox prints the same PDF correctly in monochrome.
- OnlyOffice Desktop Editors also prints correctly in monochrome.
- Printing from the terminal using:
lp -o print-color-mode=monochrome
also works correctly.
- The printer itself correctly supports monochrome printing.
- An old HPLIP USB queue was removed during troubleshooting, leaving only the
IPP Everywhere queue.
- The issue remained after removing the HPLIP queue and restarting CUPS.
Because Firefox, OnlyOffice and the CUPS lp command all honor the
monochrome option, the printer, IPP Everywhere backend and CUPS appear
to be working correctly.
The issue appears to affect Evince's printing path and may also affect
other GTK applications, since the same behavior was observed in
LibreOffice Writer.
