Public bug reported:
I have just performed a fresh install of Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute Snapshot
3 in a QEMU/KVM virtual machine. I have performed a "sudo apt update &&
sudo apt -y full-upgrade && reboot" immediately prior to the action in
this bug report, and have the most current packages available as of this
writing.
I am attempting to turn off animations within the GNOME Shell.
To do so, I am opening up the GNOME settings (via the settings button in
the system tray menu in the upper right-hand corner), and then
navigating to "Accessibility > Seeing", and clicking the "Reduced
Motion" toggle to "On".
While the Settings application shows the "Reduced Motion" toggle as
enabled the moment that I click to enable it, the setting has no obvious
effect. There is no reduction in the amount of animations that I can see
(tested by minimizing a window, and using the "Super" keyboard key to
open the Activities view).
Additionally, if I close the GNOME settings window, re-open it, and
navigate back to "Accessibility > Seeing", the "Reduced Motion" toggle
is "Off" again, despite it being "On" when the settings window was
closed.
I also performed the same action by launching "gnome-control-center"
from a terminal. It also had no obvious effect, and the following was
written to the terminal when the "Reduced Motion" toggle was set to
"On":
