Summary: After upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04, the GNOME Calculator (GTK4
version) does not display numbers correctly when using the GNOME
Flashback session (Metacity/X11). The digits are clipped, showing only
the top or bottom half of the numbers.
Steps to reproduce:
Log into a GNOME Flashback session on Ubuntu 24.04.
Open gnome-calculator.
Type a sequence of zeros (000000).
Expected result: The numbers should be fully visible and centered in the
display area.
Actual result: The display "flickers" or alternates with every
keystroke. With each "0" entered, the view toggles between showing only
the top half or only the bottom half of the digits. It appears to be a
rounding or padding issue in the GTK4 drawing area under X11/Flashback.
Environment:
OS: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Desktop Environment: GNOME Flashback (gdm3)
App Version: gnome-calculator (GTK4)
Graphics: X11
Additional Notes: This behavior seems related to the upstream GNOME
Issue #512. I have attached screenshots (Auswahl_003.bmp and
Auswahl_004.bmp) demonstrating the alternating clipping.
