Thanks for the bug report. Please ensure all third party extensions are
deleted, not just disabled:
cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
rm -rf extensions
and then log in again. This is necessary because the extension
architecture is such that a buggy extension may still affect the shell
even if it fails to enable. And it's necessary for us to be absolutely
sure the leak is originating from an Ubuntu package.
Also it's interesting you mention shared and virtual memory only. It is
normal for gnome-shell to use 5GB of address space (virtual memory), but
address space is not actual memory usage. Please confirm which process
is actually increasing its resource usage over time.
