Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a bug since the recent updates on Ubuntu 25.10 (post 5th
September): when the user password contains a circumflex accent like
"û", access is first denied because the letter is written without accent
on the password field.

Steps to reproduce :

On 5th September, I ran since many weeks the development version of
Ubuntu 25.10, updated from a previous 25.04 classic Gnome (Shell)
Wayland version with a password having a "û" inside, which had always
worked fine. I did an update, cumulating the last 2 weeks before.

Now, on current 25.10, on gdm login field :

-Numeric keypad was no more activated by default on startup : corrected
in the last 7th September updates

-And if I type "û" it writes "u", same for ô → o ; ï → i

If I type : € # $ @ ù à é è they are well and correctly written.

Only letters with an accent needing click on 2 keys (including one dead
key like ^) are no more written correctly :

û and ü give u
ô and ö give o

French language and "French (alternative)" keyboard configuration

gdm3 version 49 beta-0 ubuntu3

I have to launch the visual keypad in order to correctly write the û.

It's a similar issue that one I already had in 18.04 - I opened a new
bug report because it concerns new packages, but I give the link in case
it can help for the upstream identification and report on Gnome Shell /
gdm :

Thanks !
