This was also happening to me - With a fresh Ubuntu 24.04.01 install. Logging in Wayland or with "Ubuntu on Xorg" did not make a difference.
I believe it may have something to do with gnome-terminal profiles. I did not attempt debugging as the problem went away after using dconf to load my previously saved gnome-terminal profiles. For example, I had previously saved my gnome-terminal profiles using: user% dconf dump "/org/gnome/terminal/legacy/profiles:/" > my_profiles After installing 24.04.01 I used this to load them into gnome-terminal using: user% dconf load "/org/gnome/terminal/legacy/profiles:/" < my_profiles Please see attached "my_profiles" for the profiles that are restored. The contents of which may or may not have specific effects on this bug. It is included for illustration. I hope this helps.. ** Attachment added: "my_profiles: These are my 4 gnome-terminal profiles" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2049923/+attachment/5841604/+files/my_profiles -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2049923 Title: gnome-terminal freezing, then crashing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2049923/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
