The headset has internal speech with among other things "muted" and "unmuted"
it responds to a button press, or the mic position.
- this works as lintened, tested with cellphone and windows. (and it worked for
years with Ubuntu)

The symptoms are as follows:
When the headset microphone is selected in control panel, the headset says
"muted"
if I press it's mute button - I hear "umuted" then "muted"
The muted status is NOT reflected in the sound setting panel. the mic becomes
disabled, but looks as if not muted in settings.
Toggling mute settings in GUI has no effect.
Dis/reconnecting the device will make it behave/respond normally - until
control panel, or other application tries to use it's microphone.

If I move to audio device to a VMWare with windows, it will behave
normally.

Something in Ubuntu is actively trigging the "mute" on any attempt to
use the microphone.

** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
