UPDATE 4: Now that I identified that the kernel 6.8.0-40 update played a role in the automatic switch from Xorg to Wayland, I wanted to check if this behaviour differs if I use a different version of the NVIDIA drivers.
I went ahead and performed yet another new offline installation of Zorin OS 17.1 Core r2 on my laptop, with the NVIDIA 550.67 drivers pre- installed and software updates disabled. That way I could ensure that it uses Xorg by default instead of Wayland. Afterwards, I uninstalled the NVIDIA 550 drivers and switched to the NVIDIA 535 drivers without updating any other packages on the system. After rebooting, it still logged into the Xorg session by default as expected. However, after upgrading the Linux kernel from version 6.5.0-35 to 6.8.0-40 and rebooting, it switched the default session to Wayland automatically, even with the NVIDIA 535 drivers installed (not 550). Nevertheless, libadwaita apps still launch normally with the NVIDIA 535 drivers and the integrated Intel drivers are still being used in Wayland, as I previously mentioned. As a result, it seems that the new kernel – and not the NVIDIA driver – is causing the automatic switch from Xorg to Wayland. Once again, my apologies for this barrage of comments. I hope this additional context would help you to find the source of this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080282 Title: Wayland is chosen as the default for Nvidia on Jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/2080282/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
