I would need to see the monitor's EDID data to be sure which are modes
supported by the hardware vs modes made up in software. Please try:

  sudo apt install edid-decode
  for e in /sys/class/drm/*/edid ; do edid-decode $e ; done > edids.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.
