I think there's some confusion here between multiple issues: 1. Bug 2011803 which first declared https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2678 fixed _before_ Ubuntu 23.04 was released.
2. A Phoronix performance regression https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2770 which the reporter confirmed is fixed by https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2961 (in mutter 44.1, hence comment #8 above). 3. Releasing https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2941 to redesign the fix for https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2678 (bug 2011803), which was already fixed before Ubuntu 23.04 released. So basically there are only two upstream issues and both are fixed in either 44.0 or 44.1 already.
