Public bug reported: I recently purchased a portable USB monitor and decided to connect it to my desktop system as a 3rd monitor. For a couple of hours I was able to setup all three monitors as "joined displays" however at one point when the new monitor started powering on it would mirror one of the other two displays. Additionally, it was quite difficult to move the mouse from either of the mirrored displays to the other one. I'll attach a screenshot of how the displays section of gnome-control-center looks.
