[Not entirely sure if my environment corresponds to Toby's]

This is my first time, so could anyone move this report to the correct
topic/location and let me know? Thanks!

Well, this has happened a number of times:
the screensaver (seems to me) displays "Constructing molecules" on the top
left and doesn't let me have access to the bunch of programs and scripts I have
running

My box,
 {Xubuntu: Linux karur 2.6.20-10-generic #2 SMP Mon Mar 12 00:02:49 UTC 2007
i686 GNU/Linux}
is unresponsive to keystroke/mouse movement after the displayed message and I
end up having to re-boot and re-run my scripts/commands/programs.

As an aside, and hoping it won't terribly be out of place in this forum,
is there a way to "take control" of a terminal, say pts/5, from another
session provided I have all the rights/authority, etc, - seems to me
that input and output redirection should be possible and implemented for
us not to get to ground where we end up justifying the reason for Open
Source development and product quality with something as inane as a USP
that reads "you need to reboot only half the time as the other guys'
OS"

Also, it doesn't speak well of an implementation that causes you lost
time AFTER your espousal of the cause for Ubuntu, specifically, and
Linux in general, when trust and faith is reposed in the OS offering,
and with attendant claims, only to fall on its face in sheepishness -
recommendations turn into reasons for amusement - nah, I'm just having a
bad day, sorry.
