Public bug reported: Select Fcitx as input method, log out, log in again. The GUI (gnome) becomes extremely sluggish, and does not react to keyboard input any more after a couple of seconds. CTRL-Alt-Backspace luckily works. After several attempts I managed to change the input method back to Ibus before the GUI hangs. If I remember correctly, then the same problem occurred on a previous release of Ubuntu as well.
