Yeah it's not obvious but buggy gnome-shell extensions can still cause problems even when disabled. They need to be uninstalled. It sounds like that is working well so far...
As for the CPU usage, that's not related to this bug so should be discussed elsewhere. I think that's a general problem with compositing software-rendered apps as GTK apps are.
