Thanks. Curiously that most recent log isn't showing any failure that I
can find. It looks like Gnome is working (unlike the log messages at the
top of this bug)...

Do you see a login screen at all or does the problem occur before that?

I wonder if the system has just failed switch to the correct VT. Please
try Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F2.
