That sounds like a second bug which I was trying to keep separate.
Sounds like a partial success now at least, since the monitor is /more/
black if you leave the peripherals unplugged. Because it would fully
wake if you left the peripherals plugged in. Unless I have missed
something.

Back on that secondary bug, does the backlight go off in the original
case with the peripherals plugged in?
