The usability is bad and we really need to have user help for it. Could someone affected please open a bug against gnome-user-docs for this issue. For it to work, I do something like this: Ctrl+Shift+E You should see an underlined e Type the emoji name you want. Let's try smile Then press space to get the emoji presented. Press enter to confirm and finalize the emoji or press space again to see a dropdown list of related choices.
