Thanks for reporting this. I can confirm it with ibus-mozc and LibreOffice. Same problem with ibus-libpinyin. (I think I only tested with gedit, where it works, before making the change...) Even if Wayland is not default in Ubuntu 18.04, this regression is too serious to be acceptable. I'm going to reverse the change.
