Public bug reported:
Sometimes the left mouse button stops working. The right button, the
movements, and the keyboard all still work normally. The laptop's touch
screen also still works. The left mouse button doesn't work anywhere,
neither in the application nor in the shell widgets.
Unplugging/plugging the (usb) mouse has no effect.
Logging out and back in does temporarily solve the problem.
It usually occurs after resuming from suspend, but it once did occur
shortly after plugging in an usb pendrive (this might be a coincidence
of course).
This is with Gnome Shell on Wayland, on 18.04.
This report is similar to bug 1743183, except in that bug it seems the
left mouse button never works in Wayland. In my case, it usually works,
but stops working after a while.
