I too am affected by this bug. It is intermittent for me, and not immediately reproducible, however I was able to reproduce it and grab some journalctl lines via SSH if it is at all helpful.
I should also add that I have set gnome-tweak-tool -> Power -> Suspend when laptop lid closed -> Off And I have also tried killing the ignore-lid-switch-tweak process in hopes it may have been related however it had no immediate affect. journalctl1.txt shows the issue occuring, black screen, no keyboard/mouse response. journalctl2.txt shows opening and closing the lid during this "frozen" condition. I was then able to recover from this condition via ssh by doing a pkill -HUP gnome-shell, which was showing 100% cpu usage. I was presented with the login screen which after logging in took me to the lock screen since I had already been logged in and locked the screen before I closed the lid. Hope that's helpful. ** Attachment added: "Locked my user session, and closed the laptop lid." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1741839/+attachment/5059838/+files/journalctl1.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1741839 Title: gdm3 lock screen/gnome-shell freeze after opening laptop lid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1741839/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
